How do I install Contao CMS on my hosting server?

Contao CMS is an open source content management system that specializes in accessibility, usability and flexibility for creating and managing websites. It offers extensive features for developers and editors, including easy handling of multilingual content and a powerful backend.

Prerequisites: Plesk Control Panel

  1. Download the Contao Manager. You can download it here .
  2. Log in to your Plesk server.
  3. Switch to the file manager.
  4. Create a new folder in the httpdocs directory.
  5. Load the Cantao Manager into the new directory.
  6. Since Plesk does not recognize the extension of the file, you must rename the file to contao-manager.phar.php (simply add .php to the end).
  7. If you are using a main domain for Contao, you must submit a ticket to support. You can do this via your customer center.
You can use this example text, replace “mydomain.eu” with the domain concerned and “myfolder” with the folder name created in step 4.
Titel: Contao CMS Installation - Dokumentenstamm anpassen

Hallo Support
  1. As soon as Support has adjusted the path, you can continue.
  2. Now you can continue your Contao installation in the browser. To do this, open “mydomain.eu/contao-manager.phar.php”
  3. First create a user. To do this, follow the steps described.
  4. Contao will then check a few settings. You should then be prompted to set up the installation. Click on “Setup” here. Follow the steps as described.
  5. As soon as you get to the point Database, return to Plesk to create a database. You can do this as follows: Select Databases > Add database > Give the database a name, create the user and password. Make a note of these details.
  6. Fill in the database details. The host is Localhost and the port is 3306. Follow the steps as shown.
  7. Create a user name for access to the CMS.
  8. Now you can log into your CMS via “mydomain.eu/contao.
